a live work introduced in three acts
a test for a vulnerable body in an unknown space
a staccato of different voices, sound clips and projected images.
The script takes inspiration in Yuko, a survivor of the U.S. attack on Hiroshima in 1945; and Justine, the main fictional character of the book Justine or The Misfortunes of Virtue (1787) by the Marquis de Sade. The two voices are selected from The Words of Others (1967), a literary collage by Argentine artist León Ferrari. Other sources used in the work include poetry of Chicana artist Gloria Anzaldúa, illustrations of Justine by Czech transgender artist Toyen (aka Marie Čermínová), and gestures from Italian singer Mina Mazzini.
La facultad is a term coined by Gloria Anzaldúa that refers to the capacity developed by many on the border “to see in surface phenomena the meaning of deeper realities”. It is an instant “sensing”, a quick perception arrived at without conscious reasoning. It is an acute awareness mediated by the part of the psyche that does not speak, that communicates in images and symbols -which are the faces of feelings.

un trabajo en vivo compuesto por tres actos
una prueba para un cuerpo vulnerable en un espacio desconocido

El guión se inspira en Yuko, una sobreviviente del ataque de Estados Unidos a Hiroshima en 1945, y Justine, el personaje principal del libro Justine or The Misfortunes of Virtue (1787) escrito por el Marqués de Sade. Las dos voces fueron seleccionadas de Palabras Ajenas (1967), un collage literario del artista argentino León Ferrari. Otras fuentes incluidas en este trabajo fueron la poesía de la artista chicana Gloria Anzaldúa, ilustraciones de Justine realizadas por el artista trans Toyen (también conocido como Marie Čermínová) y gestos de la cantante italiana Mina Mazzini.
La Facultad es un término acuñado por Gloria Anzaldúa que hace referencia a la capacidad de muchos en la frontera de “ver en fenómenos superficiales el significado de realidades más profundas”. Es una detección instantánea, una percepción rápida que llega sin un razonamiento consciente. Es una consciencia aguda mediada por la parte de las psiquis que no habla, que comunica en imágenes y símbolos, que son la cara de los sentimientos.
