What you have is what you have is a project by Mercedes Azpilicueta and Ohad Ben Shimon at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. What you have is what you have shows mainly the role and critical position of the art institution, in this case the Van Abbemuseum, within the contemporary cultural public debate in The Netherlands. The video shows a series of conversations that took place during May 2013 at the offices, different studios and working places of the museum. Together with the urge to rethink the role of the cultural institutions within society, the museum is treated as a living body within another body (public space) unfolding the potential agency of the museum today.
What you have is what you have was part of the collective exhibition Making Use – Dutch Art Institute at the Van Abbemuseum in June and July 2013.
For the presentation the museum reversed the roles and asked the students to ‘use’ the museum, drawing on elements of the institution to inform their practice, from the collection, the spaces, people or limitations of the museum. The group tackled this challenge in different and surprising ways.
The show will include works by Mercedes Azpilicueta and Ohad Ben Shimon, Anna Dasovic, Yoeri Guepin, Fotini Gouseti, Rei Kakiuchi, Eden Mitsenmacher, Pendar Nabipour, Fraser Stewart, Katja van Driel and Susan van Hengstum.

What you have is what you have es un proyecto por Mercedes Azpilicueta y Ohad Ben Shimon en el Vanabbemuseum, Eindhoven, Holanda, 2013. What you have is what you have muestra el rol y la posición crítica de la institución artística, en este caso del Museo Van Abbe, dentro del contexto cultural de debate público en Holanda. El video muestra una serie de conversaciones que tuvieron lugar durante Mayo de 2013 en las oficinas, estudios y espacios de trabajo del museo Vanabbe. Junto a la necesidad de repensar el rol de las instituciones culturales en la sociedad, el museo y su radio de acción es tratado como un cuerpo vivo dentro del espacio público mostrando la influencia potencial que tiene el museo hoy.
